Meet an ARID Member-at-Large

Pat Nickell, CSC

Pat grew up in Tennessee as the oldest daughter of Pat Nickelldeaf parents.  Having achieved her CSC certification in 1977, she has served a variety of institutions as either a staff interpreter or interpreting services coordinator including Harrison-Chilhowee Baptist Academy in Seymour, Tennessee, television interpreter for First Baptist Church of Knoxville, TN, and First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK, Adjunct Instructor - University of Tennessee, University of Louisville – Medical School, and the University of Arkansas. 

Pat has been interpreting professionally for 34 years with a broad range of assignments.   Most notable of these assignments have been interpreting for Holocaust survivor and author - Corrie ten Boon; a deaf medical student at the University of Louisville; the 1984 Presidential Campaign of Walter Mondale; the 1992 Presidential Campaign of Bill Clinton; the 2000 Presidential Campaign of George W. Bush; Miss America – Heather Whitestone; comedian and syndicated columnist – Dave Barry; and actors – James Earl Jones and Robert Redford.

Pat currently works as an independent contract interpreter in Northwest Arkansas and is active in the deaf community.  She is an active member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Arkansas Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

Pat and her husband Tim have been married for 27 years and they have three children – Lisa, Grant and Clark.  She and her husband Tim are members of Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville.  Her hobbies include gardening, cross stitching, reading, attending craft fairs, and traveling.
