Meet the ARID President

Karin Binko, IC/TC

Karin Binko has been interpreting professionally since 1981.  This is the same year she received her RID National Certification, Interpreting Certificate/Transliterating Certificate (also known as IC/TC).  She received her formal training at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) in 1979 in the National Interpreters Training Consortium, Beginning Interpreter Training Program (NITC/BITP).  Upon completion, she worked as an Independent Living Counselor for Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in the Office for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired in the Hot Springs Field Office for six years.  She also has taken several post-graduate classes related to interpreting, American Sign Language, counseling and leadership. 

After marrying in 1985, she worked as an independent contractor for more than 20 years.  For the last two years, she has worked full-time as a Video Interpreter for Sorenson Communications.   

Karin has been active in ARID since 1979.  She has served the organization in various capacities:  previously served two consecutive terms as President, as Member-At-Large, and on various committees.  She also served on the Dual Membership Committee for RID back in the 1980s.  She also served as secretary of the Arkansas Association of the Deaf for four years also in the 1980s.
