Interpreters and Interpreting
Interpreters provide a service to hearing and deaf or hard of hearing individuals by translating communication from sign language to spoken English and from spoken English to sign language. The field of interpreting has grown tremendously in recent years as interpreters continue to strive to maintain high standards and to educate others about the profession. The high standards of the field are laid out in the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct . All interpreters, regardless of their certification level, are encouraged to adhere to these professional standards. Doing so ensures that all consumers—both deaf and hearing—receive the highest quality of services and that the profession of interpreting is viewed with the respect that it deserves.
