The Choices We Make: Demand/Control and Ethical Practices

What: Utilizing the resarch of Dean and Pollard, this workshop will discuss the concepts of Demand/Control, positive and negative consequences and resulting demands. We will learn about our continuing evolution as a practice profession and how we can integrate the knowledge into ethical decision making practices.
We will analyze real world scenarios in order to understand how we can apply ethical concepts in our daily work as interprters. Situations incude educational, medical, mental health, legal and business/employement.
Participants are encouraged to bring laptops and thumb drives.
Who: This workshop will be of value to all interpreters regardless of where they work or at what level of experience that have in the field.
Registration: Early bird (before 2/25): $60 ARID Member, $75 non-member After 2/25: $70 ARID member, $85 non-member
Dawn M. Wessling, NIC Master, has over 20 years of field experience as an interpreter. She is currently an interpreter and adjunct instructor with Tulsa Community College. She has her BachelorŐs degree in psychology. She is also a current student in the graduate program at the University of North Florida with a strong interest in interpreting research. Her field of interest includes emotional health of interpreters and how they process the emotions of their work. She will begin working at the University of North Florida in July as the Staff Interpreter and as an adjunct instructor for the College of Education and Human Services in Jacksonville, Florida. She is married to a retired sailor and has boy/girl twins who are 9 years old. She currently lives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

ARID is an approved sponsor for Continuing Education Activities under the CMP and ACET. The program is offered for a total of .6 CEUs in Professional Studies with a Content Knowledge Level of Beginner to Advanced. Target audience is certified and pre-certified interpreters. QAST level interpreters may earn 6 hours CEU training.
